The study we are going to present is part of a larger program which explores the relationship between prosody and syntax in the perception of continuous speech. Our studies to date have led us to the conclusion that the relationship is an interactive one. In this paper, we will be concerned with the possibility that some prosodic features may nevertheless be perceived independently of syntax.
