Abstract
To reach La Plata, the provincial capital where my university was located, I had to travel about 100 km, crossing Buenos Aires city from North to South. During my first two university years I woke up at 5:30, and 30 min later boarded the train to Retiro, where I took the subway to the Constitución station, where another train took me to La Plata, where I arrived at 8:00. (Two decades later, the same train took twice or thrice as long.) The Faculty was only three blocks away from the station, and we walked there along with some of our professors.
