Abstract

In the literary heritage of Georg Lukács, the interpretation of the history of philosophy plays a great, if not dominant, role. This is explicable, at least in part, by the complex path that he took to arrive at Marxism, at dialectical and historical materialism. During his intellectually formative period, he came under the influence of the idealist philosophy which was then dominant in Germany. The Great October Revolution, and the subsequent events in 1918 in Hungary, drew Lukács into the ranks of the Communist Party.
