Abstract

In mid-1854 Hermann Grassmann started working on a second version of his Aus-dehnungslehre. The first version of 1844, A1 [A1], had failed to attract the attention of his contemporaries. But Grassmann was convinced that his theory was important, and his renewed effort was encouraged by Möbius,1 to whom he sent the finished A2 [A2] in October 1861. The new version featured a radically different style from A1.Grassmann also had added a wealth of new material.
