Abstract

In mid-1854 Hermann Grassmann started working on a second version of his Aus-dehnungslehre. The first version of 1844, A₁ [A1], had failed to attract the attention of his contemporaries. But Grassmann was convinced that his theory was important, and his renewed effort was encouraged by Möbius,¹ to whom he sent the finished A₂ [A2] in October 1861. The new version featured a radically different style from A₁.Grassmann also had added a wealth of new material.
