Abstract

The aim of this paper is to discuss and analyze the homecomer as a phenomenon in a manner not considered by Schutz (1964) in his essay "The Homecomer.' In that paper, Schutz cites the work of Wolf who considered the traveler who comes back from foreign countries, the emigrant who returns to his native land, the boy who made good abroad, as homecomers who are home "for good.' On the other hand, he categorizes the soldier who returns on a thirty-day period and the college boy spending Christmas vacation with his family as homecomers who are on a "temporary stay.' Schutz selects the returning veteran and focuses on this as an outstanding example of the homecomer who comes home for good. Consequently, homecomers who are home for a temporary stay are not considered in the discussion.
