Phenomenology from the Marxist-Leninist standpoint

Abstract

When we pass from the Marxist-Leninist criticism of the Warsaw school to that of phenomenology we might expect arguments and evaluations which would command a wide measure of consent outside the Marxist-Leninist school of thought. In Poland Husserl's Logische Untersuchungen was a widely studied and influential work. Polish thinkers owed much to Husserl's criticism of psychologism in logic and he inspired their interest and first studies of semantical concepts ¹⁸⁷. This could not be said of Husserl's later phińośophical works, commencing with Ideen zu einer reinen Phänomenologie und phänomenologischen Philosophic, and of the elaborate speculative system that followed the latter. Husserl's transcendental idealism found no supporters in the small circle of Polish phenomenologists, including Roman Ingarden, Husserl's eminent pupil. Ingarden did not accept the view often expressed by Husserl in his oral pronouncements: Streichen wir das Bewu βtsein, so streichen wir die Welt¹⁸⁸.
