End user computing is a growing aspect of the IT activity within UK organisations. The number and size of end user developed applications is steadily increasing, yet little attention is paid to the processes by which such applications are developed and maintained. In this paper we examine how end user computing activities are supported within UK organisations. This paper is the result of a research programme involving case studies in thirty four UK organisations aimed at improving business systems.
