In the near future, the success or failure of any company will be determined by how effectively and explicitly it manages its knowledge. The time has come for companies to start treating their knowledge as a corporate asset. The processes by which software companies develop their products are the core components of their business. It is vital that the knowledge about these processes be managed effectively and explicitly. This paper presents research which is a starting point for such knowledge management. It shares findings about the kind of implicit knowledge management that exists within two software processes in a small Irish software company.
