Abstract

Intentionality as consciousness directed to a theme is not a sporadic act of consciousness. Awareness, as the essence of consciousness, is its intentionality. Hence the exploration of consciousness is the identification of its intentionality. From the perspective of intentionality we may distinguish between the directiveness itself and that to which it is directed — or between noesis and noema. The latter may change, but whatever appears in consciousness is fundamentally related to intentionality and its characteristic correlation.
