Wittgenstein was one of the first philosophers to scrutinize psychoanalysis seriously. He apparently began reading Freud around 1919 (McGuiness, 1981; Monk, 1990) and later incorporated remarks on Freud in his teaching. Until very recently, philosophical consideration of Freud's work was, at least within the analytical tradition, dominated by Wittgenstein's thinking143.
