Abstract

Already in the short space of this book readings of biblical texts have been invaded by a number of disciplines. How far may one entertain the claims of such a variety of discourses? To introduce yet another, therefore, the voice of feminist criticism, may seem foolhardy, particularly from one whose appreciation of feminism must always be borrowed: for as Toril Moi has somewhat tartly remarked: "with a few exceptions, the actual criticism produced by so-called male feminist critics is not overwhelmingly convincing".1
