Abstract

Translated into English, the German notion of Bildung means education, as in "Erwachsenenbildung" (adult education) or " Bildungswissenschaften" (educational sciences). Beside this general use, Bildung is also a philosophical concept that refers to processes of cultivation of human capacities as well as to the end state of this process, the state of being educated, cultivated, or erudite.
