Would super-human machine intelligence really be super-human?
pp. 365-378
in: Gordana Dodig Crnkovic, Raffaela Giovagnoli (eds), Representation and reality in humans, other living organisms and intelligent machines, Berlin, Springer, 2017Abstract
Given recent advances in the field of artificial intelligence, the notion of creating a digital machine capable of not only logical operations, but also of complex inferences and other processes usually associated with human thought, must now be considered. This chapter attempts to provide a speculative basis for such a consideration. The chapter attempts to defend the position that although machine "intelligence" will always differ from human intelligence in nature, it will exceed human intelligence in significant ways that will require a serious and profound reflection on the meaning of thought itself.
