Abstract

Adrian Johnston has established himself as one of the foremost philosophical interpreters of the psychoanalytic oeuvre of Jacques Lacan. From his first book, 2005's Time Driven: Metapsychology and the Splitting of the Drive, in which he addresses problems plaguing psychoanalytic accounts of time and drive theory, to some of his more recent work, e.g., 2013’s Prolegomena to Any Future Materialism Volume One, in which he lays the critical groundwork for an extended elaboration of his transcendental materialist philosophy, Lacanian psychoanalysis provides the theoretical launching pad for his own intriguing ideas. In all of his work, Johnston shows an astonishing breadth of knowledge of Lacan’s corpus, with virtually all of his volumes featuring numerous references to the entirety of Lacan’s complex, far-reaching, and decades-long teachings.
